A brush is a painting tool for applying suspensions of pigments (colors) to the painting surface. It consists of bristles, a handle and a ring that fastens the bristles and connects them to the handle.
When you dip your brush into paint, the capillary forces between the bristles absorb the paint. You squeeze the color out of it when you press it on the base and move it over it. What kind of trace the brush leaves on the surface depends to a significant extent on its bristles. Of course, no matter how good a brush can do a miracle if the artist's hand is lousy, no matter how good a painter can paint a good picture if he uses bad and cheap brushes. Good brushes are not cheap, but Leonardo da Vinci once said that he never spends less money on brushes than on paints. Of course, you don't need to buy new ones for every picture. If you maintain them properly, you can draw quite a few pictures with them.

- Shape - you choose the appropriate shape depending on the purpose you want to achieve in the drawing: applying paint, painting larger surfaces, painting details, etc.
- Material - brushes with artificial bristles (nylon and polyester) are generally used for painting with acrylic paints, and in special cases you can also choose brushes with bristles made of natural materials
- Size - determines the width of the brush where the frame ends and the bristles begin. It is marked with numbers from 000, 00, 0, 1 ... to 24 and more. The size is always marked on the handle of the brush. However, the number does not indicate the absolute size of the brush, but the sizes of brushes of the same number from different manufacturers may differ. You adjust the size of the brush to the size of the surface you want to color - larger surfaces require larger brushes and smaller surfaces require smaller ones.
- Length - determines the length of the bristles. The brush can have short, medium and long bristles. Usually, the length of the bristles is already determined by the shape itself and the manufacturer, so customization is mostly not possible.
